ANN ARBOR CIVIC THEATRE OFFERS A FREE WORKSHOP FOR ACTORSAnn Arbor Civic Theatre (A2CT), in collaboration with the Drama area of the Performing Arts Department at Washtenaw Community College, is offering a free workshop for people interested in auditioning for non-musicals. The workshop will be held Saturday, February 7th, from 1-4pm at the Washtenaw Community College Language Arts Building, room 175. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling the A2CT office at (734) 971-2228, or by visiting the website at www.a2ct.org
As part of a grant from Pfizer to increase participation in Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, this workshop will focus on general auditioning topics for straight plays, as well as specific tips on auditioning for A2CT. Led by veteran directors/actors Wendy Wright and Thom Johnson, the workshop will cover many auditioning issues including preparation, on-the-spot character development, dazzling the director, and what not to do at an audition. This workshop will be particularly helpful for those interested in auditioning for Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, and is designed for beginners as well as experienced actors.
Co-workshop leader Thom Johnson has been acting and directing for A2CT for over 20 years. His directing efforts include Enter Laughing, You Cant Take it With You, and the award-winning Noises Off. Co-workshop leader Wendy Wright is also a veteran actor and director with many area theatre groups, including A2CT, Performance Network, and PTD. Wendy graduated from UM with a degree in theater, and most recently directed A2CTs hugely successful production of The Importance of Being Earnest.
In addition to the auditioning for non-musicals workshop, A2CT will be offering free audition workshops for musicals and youth productions in March 2004. Look for ongoing information on these workshops at www.a2ct.org.
