Directed by veteran A2CT director Wendy Sielaff, Chicago spins the tale of showbiz wannabe Roxie Hart as she goes to murderous lengths to attain stardom. Her rival, chanteuse Velma Kelly, is determined to out-maneuver Roxie. Both enlist the razzle-dazzle lawyer, Billy Flynn, to help them beat murder raps and gain fame and fortune in gangster/jazz/prohibition-era Chicago.
Director Sielaff promises a scintillating, provocative production that remains faithful to the stage version, which won numerous Tony awards during its recent Broadway revival. Original choreography by Tawna Dabney and Jennifer White makes the most of the talented dancers in the cast and a multi-level set by Mike Sielaff transforms the Lydia Mendelssohn stage into a gritty, urban penitentiary circa the 1920s.
Chicagos stellar cast, headed by Kathy Waugh as Roxie and January Provenzola as Velma, includes Glenn Bugala as Billy, Ava Rogers as Momma Morton, M. LaFlamme as Mary Sunshine, and Anthony Provenzola as Roxies hapless husband, Amos. The cast also includes Melanie Hearsch as Kitty, Aaron Rabb and Chrisy Klavitter as the MCs, and Rachel Francisco, Kiersten Dahmer, Caitlin Frankel, Emily Karpiuk, and Michele Gasco as the Merry Murderesses.
