Ann Arbor Civic Theater Presents Our Town

Ann Arbor Civic Theater (A2CT) will stage Our Town at Towsley Auditorium on the campus of Washtenaw Community College March 10-13, 2005.

Our Town features Thom Johnson as the Stage Manager, Amanda Akins as Emily Webb, John Boonin as George Gibbs, Kathleen Beardmore as Mrs. Gibbs, Patrice Pederson as Mrs. Webb, Edmond Reynolds as Doc Gibbs and Jon Elliott as Mr. Webb.  Additionally, the large ensemble is sprinkled with plenty of charming characters.  Our Town is the story of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire from 1899 to 1913.  This Pulitzer Prize winning play by Thornton Wilder chronicles the life, marriage and death of a young woman named Emily Webb, and is presented without set or props.  “This cast is doing a great job miming everything from a coffee creamer to a horse and cart.  The way they do it, you can almost see these invisible things.”  Thornton Wilder wrote the show to be performed on a bare stage, and Bugala is presenting it as a “staged rehearsal.”

“This production will feature underscoring by Aaron Copland,” says director Glenn Bugala.  “As a quintessentially American composer with many sweet, rural evocations, Copland is a logical choice to point up mood in our bare stage scenes.”  The cast will perform sound effects live during the production.  Additionally, educators are being encouraged to bring their students to the production.  A2CT has developed extensive educator resource activities and a special educator ticket price for classes that come to the show.  More details about educator resources can be found on www.a2ct.org.

Staff includes John Reiser as Producer, Anthony Provenzola as Assistant Director, Nan Wirth as Costume Designer and Nathaniel Madura as Lighting Designer.
