Thinking of trying out for A2CT Jr.’s production of The Secret Garden? It will be helpful to know the plot and characters. Join us for a book circle to discuss the book. If you don’t have a copy and can’t find it in the library, Nicola’s Books has a Puffin edition for $4.99, and you can get a 10% discount if you mention that you’re purchasing the book for the A2CT Jr. book group. No pre-registration necessary, but you may want to purchase the book soon to make sure you will get a copy. Book circle is open to kids 9–17, whether or not they intend to audition for the play. Questions or RSVPs to Jacqueline Courteau, bbbdirector@gmail.com.

Secret Garden Scriptwriting Workshop

Have you ever wanted to see the characters from your favorite book come to life? Adapt that book into a play, and you can make it happen! You can perform with and for your friends, your family—even your school. In this workshop, we’ll explore the process of adapting the classic book, The Secret Garden, into a play that will be staged later this spring by the Ann Arbor Civic Theater Junior. We’ll start with the opening scene: How do you introduce the characters? Set the stage? And start the plot in motion? Familiarity with the book is essential—please read chapters 1 through 3 before attending the workshop. Haven’t read the book yet? We’ll be hosting a book club in late February to read it—details will be posted soon. Workshop is appropriate for readers and writers aged 9 through 17
