synopsis

This beloved Shakespearian romantic comedy finds passionate lovers, ham-handed actors, and spirits of the fairy world crossing paths to discover the transformative power of love. Set in Baghdad, once a city of great art, science and education and the cradle of civilization, this production evokes the great beauty and humanity of Middle Eastern culture.

As part of Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s Literature Alive! program funded by Dykema, there will be a special pre-show talk at 1pm Sunday, November 18, before the 2pm matinee. Washtenaw Community College instructors and Shakespeare experts Tom Zimmerman and Charles Avinger will discuss the themes and various adaptations of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The discussion will be followed by a Q & A with the instructors. This pre-show event is free for all Midsummer ticket holders, and no reservations are necessary.
