The Ann Arbor Premiere of "The Producers"
|
A2CT presents the Broadway smash hit musical
The Producers September 10-13, 2009,
at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre.
Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Tickets may be purchased onlineor by calling us at (734) 971-2228.
"The show
was lousy and long, everything went wrong-where did we go right?"
The Producers is a musical comedy based on the 1960's
film by Mel Brooks. A down-on-his luck
producer, Max, and his accountant, Leo, hatch a scheme to stage the worst
musical in the world in order to bilk their investors out of millions of
dollars. Convinced that "Springtime for
Hitler" is sure to flop, the pair watch in horror as the musical becomes an
overnight hit. Hilarity and chaos ensue
with a Nazi sympathizer, a long-legged beauty, and walker-wielding grannies in
hot pursuit.
"I've wanted to direct this show ever since it premiered on
Broadway. As soon as the rights became
available I pitched it to A2CT and they snapped it up," says director Wendy
Sielaff. "I'm thrilled that we are able
to stage the Ann Arbor premiere of this hilarious and irreverent show. We're approaching it with all the raunchiness,
tastelessness, and abandon it deserves."
Musical direction for The
Producers is by Mike Williams with choreography by Ron Smith.
