From the author of RENT comes an autobiographical musical about the courage it takes to follow your dreams. Jonathan, nearing his 30th birthday, fears he is on the brink of oblivion. His girlfriend, Susan, wants to get married and move to the suburbs, while his best friend, Michael, is bringing in a huge salary on Madison Avenue. Jonathan questions his life, his loves, and his commitment to his art on this journey to write the Great American Musical.
“I love this show,” says director Rachel Francisco. “It’s a rock musical with great songs, and the small cast lets us really delve into the characters. Performing it on the Studio Stage allows a level of intimacy you don’t normally experience with a musical. For people who love the musical Rent, it’s a great chance to see the evolution of the musical from the playwright’s perspective. To top it off, the audience can then see A2CT’s production of Rent at the Mendelssohn in June!”
