In this off-beat musical by the award-winning team Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, a down-and-out skid row floral assistant, Seymour, becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Named for Seymour’s secret crush, Audrey, Audrey II grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore. Seymour attempts to quell Audrey II’s insatiable appetite as the plant gains him fame and fortune, while Audrey’s abusive dentist boyfriend Orin and grumpy flower shop owner Mushnik become entangled in Audrey II’s fateful grip. As this Faustian fable spins out of control, Seymour and the audience are swept up in a comedic maelstrom of campy humor and ‘60’s doo-wop music.

“This show has everything I love in a musical,” says director Brodie Brockie. “It has great music, solid comedy, and a heightened reality anchored by real emotion. As a visual artist, the look of the show is very important to me. Our use of color—from the set and lighting to the costumes—underscores the grittiness of skid row and pays homage to the B-movies which inspired the original film. As Audrey II grows, so does the onstage palette, until the stage is awash with vibrant, violent color.”

Due to the popularity of Little Shop of Horrors, A2CT has added an extra matinee on Saturday. Immediately following the Saturday matinee, audience members are invited to meet the cast and have their photos taken with Audrey II.
