The wonderful Olivia Allen completed Ann Arbor Civic Theatre's Youth Playwriting class on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Over the course of 5 weeks, 11 "teens and tweens" created and staged their own original play, performing it for friends and family at the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre studio stage. Look for more fun this spring as A2CT will offer a Spring Break Theatre Camp March 30 - April 3 and a three week, 2-days a week theatre class April 28 through May 15.

Ann Arbor Civic Theatre's Stage Acting Basics class for the fall session ended on November 23.

Taught by Meisner DMT certified teacher Bruce Morey, the class covered Voice & Projection, Movement, and basic Acting Skills using elements of the modern Meisner technique. Eleven students finished the three sessions and A2CT is looking towards continuing to offer Stage Acting classes for adults in the new year.

Ann Arbor Civic Theatre's Take Ten play writing class concluded on the night of Sunday, November 23 with staged readings of class plays.

Nine plays or scenes from full length plays were read by local A2CT-affiliated actors under the direction of Brian Cox. Cox, a published and produced playwright and artistic director of PencilPoint TheatreWorks also taught the class and worked with the authors to fine-tune their pieces.

Look for an even more ambitious class in producing original works next spring with the A2CT Playwright, Actor, Director Laboratory, also led by Brian Cox.

$60,000 in 6 Months

For 95 years, the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre has enriched our community with evocative work and learning opportunities.

From studio productions to main stage musicals, over 600 productions have been put on by the community for the community.

And we’re not planning on stopping anytime soon.

However…

  • Ticket sales alone do not cover expenses, as we have kept our ticket price affordable,

  • Grants and sponsorships have become more and more limited, and

  • More staffing is needed to help us work towards our 3 and 5 year goals, not just to manage the day-to-day.

And therefore, to continue:

  • making theatre accessible and affordable,

  • providing quality programming and artistic opportunities,

  • educating our community by way of classes, meet-ups, and workshops, and

  • maintaining our mission of “art for all”...

… we’re calling on you to help us raise $60,000 in the next 6 months.

We've set this ambitious timeline in order to lay the groundwork for a strong and inspiring next season - one that reflects the excellence and inclusivity our community deserves.
